my thoughts

Dearest God in Heaven
Give me strength to guide my horse.
Make my hands soft and my head clear.
Let my horse understand me, and I, him.
My heart, you have blessed with a special love of these animals.
Let me never lose sight of it.
My soul, you have gifted with a deep need for them,
As the sun gleams on an elegant head.

Always may my throat tighten at the sound of a gentle nicker.
Let the scent of fresh hay and a new bag of grain
Always be sweet to me. Let the touch of a
Warm nose on my hand always bring a smile.
I adore the joy of a warm day on the farm.
The grace and splendor of a running horse,
The thunder of its hooves makes my eyes burn
And my heart soar. Let it always be so.

Dearest God grant me patience,
For horses are harnessed wind and wind can be flighty.
Let me not frighten or harm them,
Instead show me ways to understand them.
Above all, dear God, fill my life with them.
When I pass from this world, send my soul
To no heaven without them.
For this love you have given me graces my existence,
And I shall Cherish it and praise you for it all the time.

Amen

I believe that the Tennessee Walking horse is the most gentle, willing to please breed of horse there is. I train them with a lot of time, patience and hours of riding. I do not participate in any training methods that inflict pain or discomfort on any part of the horses that I love. I also do not wish to sell any of my horses, to an owner that would agree to put anything on their horse that they would not put on their own legs or to an owner that puts shoes on that keeps the horse from being able to be let out in the pasture to romp and play as they are intended. There is no ribbon that is worth that much sacrifice on the part of this wonderful creature that I am so very thankful for. The very young and very old can ride this breed because of their natural, gentle disposition. The very least we can do, is to return the kindness and make their days as good as they make ours - - to do otherwise is unforgivable.

Look in my eye... what do you see? Do you see the love you give to me? Do you see your kindness reflected in my heart and my willingness to please you? Do you see how much I enjoyed the day, the lessons you gave me, the beauty of the trail and our time spent together? Or....do you see fear? Fear that you will use the other methods to show me my lessons? I stand in pain....but I can't tell you.....I wish so much you could see through my eyes and heart....then you would understand. You'd understand that I will be here for you, waiting.... no matter what you decide. You'd understand that I've been bred to have a gentle way, that I trust you to make decisions for me and I will honor you no matter what. What will you do when you come to my stall? What will you want from me? Is it right for you? Is it right for me? The decision is yours....I will wait for you. Look in my eyes....what do you see?
